Employment support and training
The council’s work and skills team offers employability and skills support to residents of Newport, aged 16 and over who are currently unemployed and looking to develop their skills to seek employment opportunities and employment related training.
The team provides one to one, person centred employability support, including help with
- CV writing
- job applications
- interview skills
- confidence building
- accredited qualifications, and free employment related courses
- help with travel and childcare
Through our weekly job clubs, we can also provide free training and one-to-one mentoring support to help you into work or to improve your job prospects.
For adults with disabilities, our Access Supported Employment service can provide specialised job training as well as on-site, hands-on training and support for the individual.
If you are 16-18 and not in education, employment or training, we have programmes to help you progress including Newport Youth Academy.
We also work with partners to provide volunteering opportunities to increase skills, improve health, personal development and benefit the wider community.
