Preventions

The Prevention Team aims to improve outcomes for children, young people and families. We recognise families need tailored support depending on their circumstances such as issues requiring more intense support or help to overcome smaller problems before they escalate.

The Service

The team has prevention family support workers located within communities across the whole of Newport. Following an assessment of individual needs, we provide flexible support packages for children, young people and their families.

The support we can offer includes help and advice on:

  • Parenting
  • Home management
  • Anger management/challenging behaviour
  • Wishes, feelings and self esteem
  • School attendance
  • Moving from primary to secondary school
  • Healthy relationships
  • Anti-social behaviour and low level crime

What you can expect

Weekly allocation meetings are held and, once the referral is allocated, a family support worker will contact you to arrange a convenient appointment to discuss your needs, looking at the strengths and resources that you and your family already have.

Together we will draw up a support plan for your family working flexibly and providing a service that fits in with your needs and commitments.

Complete a referral form and return to [email protected] and the team will be in touch.
