Posted on Tuesday 1st February 2022

Newport City Council is proud to support LGBT+ History Month which takes place in February.

To mark the start of the month, Councillor Jane Mudd, the Leader of Newport City Council, welcomed Cllr Laura Lacey, LGBTQ+ Champion, Adam Smith, of Rainbow Newport and Dan Earnshaw, chair of the council's Pride Network.  for the raising of the Progress flag outside the Civic Centre.

Cllr Mudd said: "This month is an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate LGBTQ+ people, as well as reflect on how we can work together to create a more equal society for everyone.

"We want Newport to be an inclusive city where LGBTQ+ people, their history, lives, and experiences are valued. We are working with our Pride network to strengthen our position as an inclusive council and city, as well as ensure our staff feel safe, respected and valued."

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the UK. To find out more about the month visit https://lgbtplushistorymonth.co.uk/
