Council takes part in Summer of Fun

Posted on Tuesday 2nd August 2022

Newport City Council is taking part in the Welsh Government funded Summer of Fun.

The scheme is currently underway and runs until September 30, supporting children and young people to take part in a range of sporting, cultural and play based activities.

Activities are free and inclusive for children and young people aged 0-25, from all backgrounds and all parts of Newport. They’re being hosted by a number of organisations including Tutortoo, Operasonic and Duffryn Community Link.

The Summer of Fun is now in its second year and was launched as part of work to help young people in Wales recover from the social, emotional, and physical impact of the pandemic, with the wellbeing of children and young people remaining a top priority.

Last summer over 67,500 children took part in Summer of Fun activities across Wales including music, theatre, sea-based sport activities, climbing and zip lining.

This summer there is once again a range of activities on offer across several venues in the city. This includes things like beatboxing and song writing sessions, gorge walking, arts and crafts and skateboarding.
