Celebrating Carers Rights Day in Newport

This year Carers Rights Day takes place on Thursday 25 November and is a time to raise awareness of the rights that unpaid carers have and recognise their contribution to our society.
The past 20 months have been difficult for many people and coronavirus has added to the pressure for a lot of carers.
The council’s community connectors will be hosting drop in sessions across the city - offering information and advice to unpaid carers. They will also be providing a cuppa and cake!

Councillor Paul Cockeram, cabinet member for social services said: “It is crucial that as a local authority we continue to offer information to unpaid carers, ensuring that they understand their rights as a carer and the support that they can receive.
We have established the Newport City Council carers offer, which highlights the information, advice and assistance that we can offer to unpaid carers.”
A carer is someone of any age who cares for a relative or friend who couldn’t manage without their help. This could be looking after someone who is ill, disabled, has mental ill health, substance misuse problems or needs a bit more help as they get older.
