Stray dogs

It is a legal requirement for a dog to wear a collar with a disc attached bearing a name and address.

Any stray dogs found in Newport are taken to Newport City Dogs Home where an owner has seven days to reclaim their dog.

Our stray dog collection service is available during normal service office hours (9am to 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Fridays), to report a stray dog use the link below or call 01633 656656.

If you are holding a stray dog outside of our stray dog service office hours, you should call 01633 656656 to receive details of the arrangements you must make before taking the dog to Newport City Dogs Home (or our vets if the dog is ill or injured).

Report a stray dog

A dog may also be microchipped, a method of permanent identification issuing the dog with a unique number which is placed on the PetLog Register.
