Autism friendly library sessions

Visiting the library can be a challenge for children with an autism spectrum disorder or with sensory or learning difficulties.

Every third Monday of the month from September 2018

Newport's Central Library holds monthly autism friendly sessions when the library is closed to the public so that children can enjoy a peaceful visit.

Children can enjoy a 45 minute rhyme and craft or build, create and play session or simply choose their books in a quiet and safe environment.

Sessions include:

  • Time to choose books and help with issuing them
  • A quiet zone called The Cwtch that can be visited when needed
  • 45 minute story, rhyme and craft sessions with a schedule available in advance so that there are no surprises
  • Computer access
  • Picture signs around the library that correspond to our map of the library
  • Easy access to a toilet
