Ready, Set, Read! at Newport libraries this summer

Newport libraries are calling for children to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge 2023.

We know that reading for pleasure is important for children's development so we want to encourage families to read and have fun together throughout the summer. There will also be rewards available for reading and reviewing books!

For this year’s challenge The Reading Agency has teamed up with the Youth Sport Trust to inspire children aged four to 11 to discover the power of sport and play through reading.

The challenge focusses on characters – brought to life by children’s author and illustrator Loretta Schauer – navigate a fictional summer obstacle course and track their reading as they go, rewarded by free incentives including stickers.

The Summer Reading Challenge starts on 8 July in libraries across Newport and will run until 9 September.
