Cllr Giles said: “Congratulations to all the pupils, staff and parents who have worked so hard to achieve these results, which are an improvement on last year’s. It is really good news for Newport.”

Leader of Newport City Council, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, said she hoped students gained confidence from their results..

“If students play to their strengths I am sure they can go into their school’s sixth form or to further education courses or indeed take advantage of apprenticeships on offer and look to their future with confidence.

“Newport is a thriving city offering opportunities for growth and jobs and we need our young people to gain skills which will secure them good careers in the future,” said Cllr Wilcox.
