Birth registrations to resume on Monday 29 June

Posted on Thursday 25th June 2020

Birth registrations in Wales can now restart – a welcome decision, as many new parents will be anxious to complete this significant milestone for their baby.

Please note that new arrangements have been made for all births within the Gwent/ Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area. The five local authorities of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen are working together so that you can attend your local office to complete the registration and purchase your baby’s birth certificate.

Because of the backlog of registrations, appointments will be prioritised based on baby’s date of birth, with those who have waited longest being registered first.

Parents whose babies were born before April 1, 2020 are encouraged to get in touch to register. The focus will move to those born after this date as soon as possible, and updates will be publicised.

New parents will need to attend a register office in person but offices will be minimising this interview time by collecting information beforehand.

Please contact your local authority for further details.

In Newport, you can request a registration appointment online.
