General election: are you registered to vote?

Newport residents will be able to choose their representatives in the forthcoming general election - but only if they are registered to vote.
Candidates will be standing in two parliamentary seats in the city, Newport East and Newport West, on 12 December.
People who are aged 18 years or over on the day of the election and are UK, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizens are those entitled to vote. They must be registered by midnight on Tuesday 26 November.
Newport returning officer Sheila Davies said: "Only people who are registered to vote can have their say in the general election this December. People living in Newport will need to register to make sure that they don't miss out on their opportunity to vote on polling day."
If you are not registered, it is easy to do it online. All you need is your name; address, including postcode; date of birth and national insurance number before logging on at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Students who will be home from university on 12 December can also contact the electoral services team to check if they are registered at the right address.
People who are on holiday or unable to vote for other reasons on election day, can apply for a postal or proxy vote.
The deadline for new applications or changes to existing postal ballots; new postal proxy applications or changes to existing proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.
Residents who want someone to cast their vote at the polling station have until 5pm on 4 December to make a new application.
