Pupils march through city to celebrate Chartist' legacy

Pupils from five primary schools in Newport will be taking part in the annual march through the city to mark the anniversary of the Chartist Movement.

This year the event will take place on Wednesday, 25 October from 1.30pm where the pupils will set off from Clifton Park, St Woolos.

Schools taking part include Millbrook Primary, Pillgwenlly Primary, St Joseph’s RC Primary, St Woolos Primary and John Frost School.

The children will be dressed up to play the part of the Chartists, the military, the crowds and politicians.

The pupils will march down Stow Hill to Westgate Square for the re-enactment outside the former Westgate Hotel. A road closure will be in place for Stow Hill from 1.15pm until 2pm.

The Mayor of Newport, Councillor David Fouweather will be attending the event and residents are welcome to come along and support the children.
