• anyone living, working or studying in Newport can join Newport libraries
  • once proof of identity has been provided, e.g. driving licence, utility bill, passport, you will be allowed to borrow up to 20 items including audio-visual items
  • if you cannot provide proof of identity you will be able to borrow up to eight items, not including audio-visual items, on a temporary basis
  • proof of identification will need to be provided after one month to continue to borrow items as a full library member
  • your library card is for your own use only and must be presented in order to borrow items
  • you must inform the library of any change of address
  • if you lose your card a replacement charge will be made. You are responsible for any outstanding items taken out on that card until you have confirmed the loss and requested a cancellation
  • the standard loan period is three weeks
  • heavily requested books have a loan period of two weeks and may not be renewed - you will be told when one of these books is issued to you
  • items must be returned or renewed before midnight on the due date or you will be charged in line with the current rate of charges
  • an item may be renewed for a further three weeks without being presented at the library unless someone else has requested it. Books requested by someone else may be renewed once only, for two days
  • you are responsible for any loss or damage to items that have been borrowed and may have to pay the replacement cost of the item

You will not be allowed to borrow further items if you:

  • do not pay your library overdue charges
  • do not return items that are long overdue
  • have not paid for or replaced a lost or damaged item
