Set up monthly direct debit payments

Sign-up to pay by direct debit with your eight-digit council tax reference number and bank account details.

Always quote the eight-digit reference number shown on the top right-hand corner of your bill, beginning with a 3.

Why use direct debit:

  • easy way to pay 
  • no need to remember to pay
  • choice of four payment dates - the 1st, 5th, 12th or 20th
  • choose to pay your annual bill over 10 or 12 months, or 11 months if you choose the 1st of the month

Making changes to your direct debit

Make a change to your direct debit payments  

If you already pay by direct debit and want to:

  • change your payment date
  • switch from 10 to 11/12 monthly payments
  • Change your bank details

Make an online payment 

Make an online payment using your debit card, with your eight-digit council tax number. This is found on the top right corner of your council tax bill.

Pay in person by cash at any UK PayPoint outlet or by cash, cheque or card at any UK Post Office by showing your barcoded bill or card to the retailer or Post Office.
