The proposal

The proposal concerns the provision of English-medium community-maintained education at Langstone Primary School, and is to extend the age range of the school from 4-11 years to 3-11 years, establishing a 20 place nursery class at the school with effect from September 2017.

The nursery will be provided in a new build extension to the current school building, improving accessibility to the school and providing an improved environment for teaching and learning.

This supports the council’s vision for a seamless pathway throughout the education of a child with a smooth transition to statutory school provision.

It is the council’s intention that 3-11 education is provided on all community-maintained primary school sites.

What happens next?

Following consultation, the Cabinet Member for Education and Young People will consider the views expressed and decide whether to proceed with the proposal.

If the decision is taken to proceed, a statutory notice will be published. The statutory notice period will last for 1 month from the date of publication and enables people to express their views in the form of supporting or objecting to the proposals.

If no objections are received following the publication of the statutory notice, the Cabinet Member for Education and Young People will make the final decision whether or not to proceed.

Statutory Notice stage

Following the end of the formal consultation period a consultation report has been prepared which summarises the issues and points raised by consultees.
