Sunday 9 July 2017
The annual Velothon Wales returns to the roads of south Wales, welcoming some of the world’s best professional cyclists as well as thousands of recreational riders and charity fundraisers.
To ensure cyclists’ safety it will be necessary to close roads and introduce parking restrictions along the route, including parts of Newport and Caerleon.
A rolling road closure system will allow sections of the route to re-open between the amateur and professional cyclists giving residents an opportunity to move away from the event if they need to.
There will be no all-day road closures.
Because of the nature of the event it is difficult to give precise road closure timings however the 140km race starts from King Edward VII Avenue in Cardiff at 8.15am with the last rides leaving around 8.40am.
The Pro Race starts at 12.45pm in front of Cardiff Castle with leaders expected to return to cross the finishing line around 4.30pm.
Organisers apologise in advance for any inconvenience and assure disruption will be kept to a minimum.
They thank residents for their understanding and are grateful for your support and cooperation.
