Childcare Providers Grant

February half-term

The Childcare Providers Grant was launched by the Welsh Government on 12 August 2020 as part of a package of support for businesses across Wales affected by Coronavirus.

Apply between 24 August and 31 October 2020.

The grant offers funding for the childcare sector to help ensure more providers re-open as schools return in September.

Sufficient capacity in the childcare sector is key to supporting working families.

The grant also aims to help make the childcare sector more resilient by requiring settings to register either as a company limited by guarantee, a private limited company, a Community Interest Company or a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Eligibility

The grant is available to childcare settings who have been unable to access other business support schemes offered by the UK and Welsh Governments.

Most providers will be eligible for a one-off grant of £2,500 to meet costs such as rent, utilities and unmet wages.

The grant is awarded based on the reduction of net income for the period 1 April 2020 to 30 June 2020 compared to 1 April 2019 to 30 June 2019.

Subject to the criteria below, a business may be eligible for a grant up to £5,000:

  • where the reduction in net income is 50% or less, the grant will equal the reduction in net income, or £2,500, whichever is lower
  • where the reduction in net income is 51% or greater, the grant will equal the reduction in net income or £5,000, whichever is lower
  • where the business started trading on or after 1 July 2019, the business will be eligible for a grant equivalent to the net loss suffered for the period 1 April 2020 to 30 June 2020, or £2,500, whichever is lower
