Take a trip down memory lane with the Newport calendar

Not sure what to get the person who has everything for Christmas? Well that search may be over with the launch of the 2013 Newport calendar.

Launched last week by the Golden Bodkins, a group of five residents who regularly volunteer at the museum and helped to select the images, you can purchase the calendar at Newport Museum and Art Gallery.

The calendar features a selection of images from Newport’s history and the group that helped to select the images have a particular interest in local history. They have been meeting regularly at the museum for the past year and the calendar features an explanation and background information on each photo.

The volunteers worked with staff over a number weeks to make the final selection and write the text and there was much discussion and trips down memory lane while doing so.

Newport City Council cabinet member for leisure and culture, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, said: “The Newport 2013 calendar provides a fascinating insight into the city’s history and heritage. I know that a lot of work and research went into producing the calendar and I would like to thank the volunteers who gave up their time and have made such a valuable contribution to the calendar. It makes an ideal Christmas present and I would urge people to purchase one.”

Newport Museum and Art Gallery welcomes the support it gets from visitors and volunteers and the calendar is available priced £5.99.
