What is the Newport City Centre Placemaking Plan?
Placemaking is a process where local people consider their priorities for the improvement of where they live.
This is an exciting and ambitious project for Newport. The aim is to transform Newport’s city centre into a vibrant and thriving destination we can all be proud of.
Newport people have helped shape its development through a summer of extensive community engagement. You have told us what you love, what you don’t like, and what your ‘money no object’ ideas are.
Over the summer we’ve connected with over 1,000 locals through digital surveys, public face-to-face engagement and focus groups.
60 big ideas for Newport
60 ideas have been developed from suggestions made by residents.
Some are transformational, some are smaller ideas to make the everyday better.
At the moment they are just ideas, but some of these may become council-owned projects included in the placemaking plan. Others could be progressed by the community, business owners, public sector and investors.
You can find out more about the 60 big ideas in the document below.
