We’re lighting up for two good causes this week

On Thursday evening, the council will be turning the Civic Centre clock tower purple to show its support for the charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK. Every year around 200 teenagers tragically take their own lives.

Every year, throughout October, PAPYRUS organises HOPEWALKS across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Newport will hold its own HOPEWALK on Friday at Tredegar House to raise awareness of suicide prevention and the work the charity does to save young lives and create suicide-safer communities.

On Friday evening, the clock tower will turn green to mark Dwarfism Awareness Day.

Youth worker Danielle Webb, of Newport, is the vice chair of Little People UK, which was co-founded by actor Warwick Davies in 2011.

Danielle, who has achondroplasia, has said that the charity transformed her life. As well as working with young people in city, she has also written a children’s book called Mummy, there’s a new girl.

Newport City Council is proud to be able to support both these charities and help raise awareness about the work they do.
