Councillor Deb Davies, the council’s cabinet member for education and early years, has congratulated the staff for achieving the silver quality mark for youth work.
Newport’s team previously held the bronze award and to attain silver had to demonstrate the promotion of inclusive practice, celebration of equality and diversity and that it met the needs of young people.
The quality mark also recognises that services are delivered by qualified staff, that activities make an impact on young people and staff involve young people in decision making.
Councillor Davies said: “It is clear the quality mark scheme sets high standards for the delivery of youth work, and I’m delighted that our teams have shown they meet those standards. Well done to everyone.
“Our youth and play service has developed significantly recently and offers clubs as well as holiday sessions for children and young people across the city.
“New participants are always welcome, and they will discover it’s a friendly, fun and safe space with lots of activities and opportunities – there is something for everyone.”
