On Thursday 21 November, between 10am and 2pm, staff will be joined by local partners and organisations to provide information and advice for unpaid carers in the city. Free refreshments will also be available.
Carers Rights Day is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness of the rights of unpaid carers and the challenges they face.
A carer is someone of any age who cares for a relative or friend who couldn’t manage without their help. This could be looking after someone who is ill, disabled, has mental ill health, substance misuse problems or needs a bit more help as they get older.
Councillor Pat Drewett, cabinet member for communities and poverty reduction said: “We value the role and the contribution that unpaid carers play within our communities - what they do is so important to us and the loved ones they care for. Newport City Council is fully committed to ensuring that carers are listened to and supported.
“Our teams are always available to offer information and advice to unpaid carers on a wide range of subjects.”
