Christmas in Newport will be a cracker!

Residents and visitors can look forward to a truly spectacular Festive Newport this year with the promise of treats galore.

A sparkling package includes:

  • A winter wonderland with an ice rink, food stalls and a Ferris Wheel
  • The ever-popular Countdown to Christmas event with the light switch-on, music, special guests, fairground rides and a fantastic firework display.
  • Santa’s workshop events, bauble photo opportunities and festive food stalls in Friars Walk
  • Christmas market stalls in the city centre
  • Festive shows including the panto Dick Whittington in The Riverfront and a series of events in Newport Market including the City of Newport Male Choir
  • And, the icing on the cake, parking will be free every Saturday in council-owned city centre car parks from 16 November to 31 December.

Partners including the council, Newport Now BID (Business Improvement District), Friars Walk Newport Live and Newport Market are as busy as elves getting ready to make it a glittering season. 

The city also has some amazing independent retailers where you will be able to buy some unique gifts for the special people in your life and will be celebrating them all on Small Business Saturday on 7 December.

Councillor Emma Corten, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for culture and communications, said: “We want to make sure everyone can experience the magic of Festive Newport so some of these exciting events and activities will be free for people to enjoy.

“We’ve been writing our wish lists with partners to make sure Christmas, and New Year, in the city goes with a bang. We are wrapping up plans for Festive Newport as quickly as possible so keep an eye on our channels for more details and more announcements about what is in store over the coming weeks.”
