Apply for the safety at home scheme
Discretionary safety at home grant assistance is available to install small adaptations up to £1,000.
Please note, maintenance and repair are not covered under the grant and is subject to the availability of funding.
An applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for funding:
- an owner-occupier or tenant that rents from a private landlord
- a minimum of 60 years old and over or has an impairment that affects independence
In addition to the criteria, the adaptation must meet one of the following aims:
- discharge from hospital
- prevention of admission into hospital
- prevention of admission into long term care
The safety at home scheme could provide:
- safe access to your property
- internal and external handrails
- half height steps
- additional electrical sockets to support medical equipment
- lighting to support visual impairment
- high-rise toilet
- shower seat (referral from an occupational therapist)

Referrals
The applicant can apply or anyone else on their behalf apply on their behalf including:
- doctors, nurses or GPs
- occupational therapists or physiotherapists
- hospital social workers
- community nurses and social workers
- age concern staff
- PATH scheme
- ward members
