Anyone experiencing homelessness can get support, advice and information from the council’s housing advice and prevention team.
The council can offer temporary accommodation to anyone we are aware of sleeping rough.
Newport Central Library, John Frost Square operates a drop-in service for those who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or need housing advice.
The drop-in service is available for homelessness assessments and housing register queries Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am-1pm and 2pm-4pm and Wednesday 9am-1pm.

Support
Report details of individuals sleeping rough using the Streetlink website or app. All reports are sent to the council.
Mental health support can be found on the MIND website or by telephone on 0300 123 3393.
Specialist mental health support and counselling can also be accessed via partner agencies and health services that are supporting those sleeping rough.

Housing support grant
Newport City Council receives a housing support grant of approximately £9 million each year from the Welsh government.
The grant provides housing-related support services for vulnerable people living in the city.
The grant aims to prevent homelessness and help people develop and maintain the necessary skills to live independently.
This funding supports around 2,000 vulnerable people in Newport.
Support help people:
- manage and find accommodation
- prevent homelessness
- claim benefits and manage debts/bills
- budget
- advice on safety and security in the home
- make contact with doctors or social workers
- access education, employment, voluntary work and training
