Local Area Energy Plan

In November 2021, Newport City Council declared an Ecological and Climate Emergency, recognising that climate change is the biggest issue defining our generation.

As part of that declaration, we committed to developing a plan to transform how the city consumes and generates energy.

We analysed a range of scenarios for what a cleaner energy system could look like. From this analysis, we produced a local area energy plan for Newport.

The plan sets out a vision for what a zero-carbon energy system could look like in 2050.

It identifies priority areas, and immediate actions for us to take in these areas, as well as a route map for the longer-term to build a city powered by greener, cleaner energy sources.
