Pass Plus Cymru driver

Pass Plus Cymru

Pass Plus Cymru is a driver training course aimed at drivers aged between 17 and 25 who have passed their driving test within the last 12 months.

The course is an online workshop with a road safety professional. This is followed by six hours of practical training by a qualified driving instructor.

The course costs £20 (subsided by Welsh government).

The course can help with:

  • driving techniques
  • hazard awareness
  • coping with busy traffic conditions
  • using rural roads
  • motorway driving

Megadrive

This road safety scheme is for students aged 16+ who have not yet passed their driving test.

The scheme explains how to be a responsible car user, whether as a passenger or driver.

As part of the day students will have a short free driving lesson with a qualified instructor in an enclosed area away from the public, in a dual controlled car.

Cycle training

National Standard Cycle Training level 1 & 2 is a training program delivered in Newport primary schools by qualified cycle trainers in the Newport City Council road safety team. If training does not currently take place in your school, please get in touch.

Adult cycle training/bike heath checks 

We are offering free cycle training to adults across Newport.

  • 29 and 30 October 2024

You can choose any of the following sessions:

  • learning to ride
  • building confidence
  • National Standard Cycle Training level 1 & 2 (Beginner/Intermediate). Covers on road training, concentrating on four main skills of priority, positioning, signalling and observations
  • National Standard Cycle Training Level 3 (Advanced). Gaining skills on negotiating complex junctions, roundabouts
  • bike health checks and puncture repairs

Sessions are funded by the Welsh government.

Balanceabilty training

This session is a fun first step towards learning to ride a bike.

  • suitable for reception aged children
  • develops balance and basic bike skills
  • easier than using traditional stabilisers

Child pedestrian training

Available to primary school pupils in year 2.

Learn how to:

  • find a safe place to cross the road
  • cross between parked cards
  • cross near a junction
