Grass cutting and maintenance
The council is responsible for grass cutting and grounds maintenance in all council-owned areas of Newport.
We maintain most grass verges alongside roads as well as cemeteries, roundabouts, open spaces and parks.
We do not maintain areas that are privately owned.

COVID-19: grass cutting
Our crews are prioritising areas that affect highway visibility, walking routes and recreational areas.
Crews are also helping with other work where there is high demand and limited resources, e.g. cemeteries.
Because of this, grass cutting and grounds maintenance work may not be carried out as often as usual and we are unable to tell you when the crews will be in your area.
We are unable to respond to individual requests for maintenance unless there is a visibility hazard.
As a Bee Friendly accredited city, we aim to preserve areas for bee friendly wildflowers in Newport.
However, we are required to cut verges along highways and besides footpaths to maintain and keep these areas safe for use.
If you see our teams at work please say hello, keeping a safe distance in line with social distancing guidelines.
