As part of its 21st Century Schools Programme, Newport City Council submitted a Strategic Outline Plan to Welsh Government proposing that 10 of the council’s primary schools should be provided with their own nursery provision.
Following consultation, the Cabinet Member for Education and Young People took the decision to move to the publication of Statutory Notices for the proposal to establish nurseries at Clytha, Glasllwch, High Cross, Millbrook, Monnow, Mount Pleasant, Malpas Park and Pentrepoeth primary schools.
In September 2014 nursery classes opened at Clytha, High Cross, Millbrook and Monnow.
In September 2015 new nursery classes opened at Glasllwch and Malpas Park Primary Schools.
In September 2016 new nursery classes were opened at Mount Pleasant Primary School and Marshfield Primary School.
The proposal in respect of Pentrepoeth Primary school has been modified and will now be implemented in January 2018.
The new nursery class will be established from this date with provision for 16 full-time equivalent places.
