Scaffolding

You must obtain a licence before putting up scaffolding and hoarding on or over a public highway.

Apply for a scaffolding or hoarding licence

A site location plan and a dimensioned elevation plan, together with any special precautionary measures to safeguard public safety, must be submitted.

The licence fee is £187 for three months.

You will also need to send a copy of your public liability insurance (a minimum of £5million cover is required).

The licence should be issued within five working days and will contain conditions designed to secure the health and safety of the public.

Do not start erecting the structure until you receive the licence

Licences are issued for a set period of time after which you must have safely removed the structure or have applied for an extension to the licence.
