Private Sector Leasing Scheme

Newport City Council operates a Private Sector Leasing Scheme. Properties leased under the scheme are used as temporary accommodation for homeless households.

The scheme offers landlords the opportunity to lease their property to the Council for a minimum of 18 months at a guaranteed rent that is paid quarterly in advance, regardless of whether the property is occupied or not.

Our dedicated tenancy management team will manage the property, undertake regular property inspections, deal with any day-to-day repairs and ensure it is returned to you at the end of the lease in a reasonable condition, minus any wear and tear.

You will not need to pay council tax on the property during the term of the lease and will not be responsible for utility bills.

Properties

At present, we are seeking self-contained, 1 bedroom properties for single people or couples. The ideal property is a ground floor flat, purpose built rather than a conversion, with an EPC rating of D or above and no responsibility for shared areas.

Please note, if you have a mortgage on the property you will need to check any requirements your mortgage company may have and you will need landlords’ insurance.

If you own a property that meets the above criteria, and would like to discuss the possibility of a lease to the council, please contact us for further information at Housing.Strategy@newport.gov.uk or contact Newport City Council and ask for the Housing Strategy and Delivery team.
