Immigration inspections
When you make an application to the UK Border Agency for entry clearance into the UK, you may be asked for an independent assessment of where you are going to stay as part of the visa application.
This will include the number of rooms, condition and number of occupants for the proposed accommodation.
Newport City Council can assess the property for a fee (from 1 April 2023) of £229.90 + VAT, which must be paid before the inspection takes place.
Re-assessment for additional person (within six months) is £117.70 + VAT.
If the property is rented, permission must be sought from the landlord before an inspection is requested.
If you require a paper application form and are unable to apply online please contact EHHousing@newport.gov.uk.
You can also download an application form (word).
Once payment has cleared we will contact you within three working days to make an appointment.
The inspection will take place within seven days of booking the appointment and a letter will be issued up to seven days after the inspection has taken place.
