Coronation 2023 Red-Blue [Small]

People across the country and the Commonwealth will be celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort over a weekend of special events.

Coronation Big Lunches, street parties and a day dedicated to good causes will bring communities together.

The Coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey and on Sunday 7 May a Coronation Concert will take place at Windsor Castle.

The weekend of celebrations will end with the Big Help Out on Monday 8 May – a special Bank Holiday proclaimed by the Prime Minister in honour of the Coronation.

Coronation Big Lunch – Beechwood Park

Sunday 7 May, 2023

There will be an artisan market in the car park between 12-4.

Beechwood cafe will be open for hot and cold refreshments from 9-5.

Bring a picnic and celebrate with all the family. Highlights include:

  • Live music provided by Newport City Radio and Beechwood Park Group. Line-up is as follows:

  • Roaming entertainment including the Nutkins, Majorettes, Bees and Sunday Besties

  • Children’s arts and craft workshops will be avalible from Beechwood Park Community Group (in front of the cafe) between 12-4.

Coronation art and poetry competition

In celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III, we would love young people in Newport to produce a Coronation themed artwork or poem.

Submit your entry by Friday 12 May 2023 and you could win a fabulous prize. There will be individual prizes including having your poem read by a famous author or local celebrity, and for winning school entries, there are iPads up for grabs!

In support of the Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May, Newport City Council will again be facilitating local street parties as we did for the Jubilee.
