Information sharing
Information sharing is key to the delivery of public services across agencies.
It can support more efficient, easier to access services and also aid cooperation between organisations to deliver services.
As sharing information also presents risks, it is vital that it is compliant with legislation and best practice and ensures that privacy is maintained where appropriate.
WASPI
In January 2011, as part of Newport City Council's commitment to information sharing, it signed the Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information (WASPI) which is endorsed by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
By signing the Accord, the council has agreed to:
- Work to a common approach for the sharing of personal information with other public and voluntary sector organisations
- Develop supporting local information sharing agreements with regular information sharing partner organisations using WASPI templates and guidance
- Raise staff awareness on information sharing responsibilities
Visit WASPI for further information.
The council’s Information Sharing policy informs employees, members and other parties who access and maintain records on behalf of the council of their responsibilities and provides guidance about the sharing of information.
Information Sharing Protocols
Using WASPI guidance a number of information sharing protocols (ISPs) have been developed, see the WASPI website for further information.
