Newport included in Healthy High Streets programme

Posted on Friday 17th July 2015

Newport Now is celebrating after finding out that the city has been awarded one of 34 places on the 2015 Healthy High Streets programme.

The programme is designed to enable businesses to collaborate and bring their combined skills and expertise together to support high streets in need.

"This is a great first step for Newport Now," said Laura Smith, BID Manager, "it shows that we can make things happen. We've been working hard behind the scenes to get the organisation set up, and projects budgeted and planned, so it's great to see the hard work starting to pay off."

Other planned projects include a window graphics street exhibition, aimed at dressing up vacant units in the centre, as well as a Welcome to Newport ambassador programme, and a night time ambassador scheme.

"We are developing projects across three key theme areas," said Laura, "Safe and secure Newport, which looks at safety in the city centre environment, Welcome to Newport, focused on marketing, promotions and city centre events, and Future Newport, which tackles city centre strategy and business support. Any business contributing to the BID is welcome to participate in the theme groups which are responsible for designing and delivering projects within these individual theme areas."
