Get expert advice at cost-of-living event

Posted on Wednesday 22nd March 2023
Newport City Council and other organisations are again joining forces to offer residents advice and support to cope with cost-of-living challenges.

Members of the public can drop into The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre any time between 10am and 6pm on Wednesday 26 April.

It follows a similar successful event last November attended by hundreds of local people.

Councillor Jane Mudd, leader of Newport City Council, said: “We know the cost-of-living crisis is still have a significant impact. Some people might be finding it difficult to cope for the first time in their lives but they need to know they are not alone and help is available.

“The event will be welcoming, inclusive and informal. People can pop in to have a chat with someone or just have a look around.”

Councillor Debbie Harvey, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: “We know that residents who attended the event last year, and similar community-based events, found them very helpful and, in some cases, got financially beneficial advice.

“We are also planning to hold more events in our local communities.”

As well as information on support the council offers, other bodies, including Newport Citizens Advice, Age Cymru Gwent, Melin Homes; Newport Credit Union, Newport Nappy Library – Wastesavers (10am-2pm) and Aneurin Bevan University Heatth Board will be at the event to advise residents.

There will also be free tea and coffee and children’s activities.

Further information about the event and who will be attending will be issued over the coming weeks.
