Summer of fun with Tutortoo

Hundreds of children and young people enjoyed a range of free activities during the school holidays organised by Newport City Council and partners.

A £5 million Welsh Government Summer of Fun project, run through councils, provided providing recreational, sporting and cultural sessions to support social, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.

Funding was awarded by the council to organisations including Newport Live, Bigger Picture, Kids Care 4 U, Pill Millennium Centre, Sparkle, Tutortoo, Urban Circle, Clybiau Plant Cymru, Newport Mind, Autism Hidden Voices, Eyst, Maindee Festival, Menter Casnewydd, Oak Hill, Operasonic and Pobl.

And the council's own teams also created a programme of activities through the Neighbourhood Hubs.

In addition, the school holiday enrichment programme, funded by the WLGA, provided food and nutrition education, physical activity and healthy meals to children in areas of social deprivation through the Food and Fun scheme.

Council playschemes also operated for four weeks with sessions for five to 12-year-olds in Bettws and Pill and twilight sessions in open spaces across the city.
