City pledges zero tolerance for racial discrimination

Newport City Council has urged other organisations to join a campaign to end racial discrimination in Wales.
To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the council is urging other organisations to sign up to the Zero Racism Wales pledge.
It signed the pledge earlier this year committing the authority to taking a stand against racism and promoting a more inclusive and equal society for all.
Councillor Jane Mudd, Leader of Newport City Council, said: "The UN day of the elimination of racial discrimination remembers the 69 people who died in South Africa while protesting against apartheid laws.
"Decades later, there is still much to be done to end racial discrimination and we all have a responsibility to fight for racial equality.
"I have signed the pledge as an individual and council has an organisation to publicly signal that we are taking a stand against racial hatred and discrimination and I urge others to do the same."
