Litter bin provision increased across Newport

Posted on Wednesday 7th October 2020

Newport City Council has recently installed over 80 new litter bins around the city.

The move forms part of the council’s commitment to increase bin provision even further and reduce the levels of litter on our streets over the next few years.

New floor fixed bins have been installed in the following wards:

•           Allt-Yr-Yn

•           Alway

•           Bettws

•           Beechwood

•           Gaer

•           Malpas

•           Ringland

•           Rogerstone

•           St.Julians

The locations of these bins have been decided through consultation with local volunteer litter picking groups, requests from the public and the experience of our street cleansing team, who have carried out the installation work.

A small number of the bins are direct replacements for smaller post-mounted bins to ensure greater capacity and tackle issues where bins have been found to be over-spilling despite regular emptying.

Any smaller post mounted bins that have been replaced will now be redeployed to other areas across the city.

We ask the public to use these bins responsibly and remind residents that they are not to be used for disposal of household waste.
