Blue light for Civic Centre tonight

Posted on Thursday 2nd April 2020

Newport's Civic Centre will be bathed in blue light this evening as part of the Clap for the NHS event at 8pm.

Councillor Jane Mudd, Leader of Newport City Council, said: "I'm delighted that we are able to join this nationwide show of support to thank NHS staff and carers who are working tirelessly and selflessly at this time.

"Staff at our own Royal Gwent Hospital are under incredible pressure at the moment and this is just a small gesture to show our appreciation for their fantastic efforts.

"I would also like to take this opportunity again to thank all those who are continuing to help others during this crisis including our own workforce who are delivering much-needed services, those who are keeping shops open and supplied and the many in our community who are looking after vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.

"I must also thank Stage Lighting Services for giving us a significant discount on the lighting up of the Civic Centre and our property partners Norse who are waiving their fees for making this happen.

"Please come out again on your doorsteps, or open your windows, and join Clap for the NHS. This was an amazing event last week and is due to take place every Thursday until the crisis is over. I would urge everyone taking part to maintain social distancing to protect themselves and others - stay safe and save lives."
