Youth Justice Service

The Youth Justice Service (YJS) is central to the Youth Justice System.

There is a YJS in every local authority in Wales and England set up with the intention of reducing the risk of young people offending and re-offending, and to provide counsel and rehabilitation to those who do offend.

Youth offending teams engage in a wide variety of work with young offenders aged 10 to 17 years to try and achieve their aims.

Locally, the service brings together staff from a wide range of organisations including the local authority, police, probation service, health and specialist project workers.

By working together, sharing knowledge, skills and experience, they aim to help young people make the right life choices and reduce youth offending.
