Planning Committee
The council's Planning Committee is responsible for deciding planning applications for major regeneration projects and any controversial applications.
The Committee must assess proposals against national and local planning policy and balance the benefits of proposed development with possible impacts on the surroundings.
The Committee can also take enforcement action against unacceptable, unauthorised development, and is responsible for defending its decisions to refuse some planning applications if challenged at appeal.
Planning Committee meetings are open to the public and anyone can attend while non-confidential matters are being discussed.
From 1 January 2017 a request to speak at Planning Committee must be made the week before the meeting by 9am on Wednesday, so if Planning Committee is on the 8th of the month, the deadline would be 9am on Wednesday 1st.
