Short breaks service
Newport City Council provides short term breaks for the families of disabled children as well as support services so that disabled children can take part in leisure activities.
Family based short breaks
Regular planned short breaks are offered from carers who have the training and experience to support disabled children and their families.
The service aims to help the child to build friendships, increase their independence and to allow families a well earned break.
Short breaks can vary from a couple of hours each week to a regular overnight or weekend stay.
Oakland House
Oakland House provides planned overnight short breaks for children and young people with a severe disability in a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment.
A day service is also offered.
We need you, can you help?
People are needed to help disabled children and their families by offering to care for a child for a few hours, overnight, for a weekend or longer.
Help to give a child an enjoyable change and offer their parents a break.
You will be offered training and support and an allowance is payable.
