We hope these pages will give you some understanding of the history of the Transporter Bridge and the role it has played in Newport. The Bridge is owned and operated by Newport City Council and forms part of the local highways network.

August 2008 – Transporter Bridge closed until further notice

Following a structural inspection it has been necessary to close the bridge completely on safety grounds until repairs are carried out. Further details, when known, will be posted on this page.

100 years of history

Newport Transporter Bridge was 100 years old on September 12th 2006 and a special exhibition was held at Newport Museum & Art Gallery to mark the occasion.
