Community Memories is an oral history project delivered by Newport Museums and Heritage service.
We work in partnership with children and young people from Newport’s minority ethnic communities to encourage individuals to explore their past and share their life stories with the wider society.
These experiences are largely absent from Wales’ recorded history and Newport wants to acknowledge the important contribution made by these groups to the city’s heritage.
Events include participation in the “Follow the Star” lantern project with Pillgwenlly Primary School, workshops to celebrate Black History Month, a successful Summer Fun family craft programme and oral history recordings with members of the community.

“Oral history records the living memories and feelings of all kinds of people, many otherwise hidden from history, and creates a more vivid picture of our past.”
