Many types of thin plastic polythene packaging can now be recycled at the carrier bag collection points at major supermarket stores Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco in Newport.
Polythene products such as bread bags, breakfast cereal liners, toilet roll and kitchen roll wrap, plastic-wrapped grocery produce (fresh and frozen), multipack shrink wrap, polythene film bags from household goods and plastic covers from magazines and newspaper supplements can be recycled.
Stores which collect plastic carrier bags for recycling will also accept clean plastic film packaging.
A new on-pack label will appear on packaging to encourage people to recycle the plastic films at carrier bag recycling points at the above stores.
On Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) scheme
The OPRL symbol is used by more than 100 companies on over 60,000 product lines to help shoppers identify which thin plastics can be taken back to store.
