The recommended hours of work, unless otherwise agreed by the council, are:
- piling should be carried out between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday only, and not on Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holidays
- construction work other than piling should be carried out between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am and 1pm on Saturday.
- Prior approval is required for any construction taking place outside permitted times and on Sunday and bank holidays.
These recommended guidelines will be enforced by Newport City Council where necessary.
To help minimise the noise from construction or demolition works the council can specify the way in which work must be carried out.
The council will usually do this only where there has been a proven problem with the way in which a contractor is operating.
The council has 28 days from the date an application is received to decide whether the contractor’s scheme of noise control is acceptable or whether any conditions should be set.
