Habitat regulations assessment

The Habitats Directive is designed to protect and enhance species and habitats of nature conservation importance at the European level.

Various European sites affect Newport, e.g. the river Usk, and to comply with the directive the Local Development Plan must be assessed to determine whether the plan would significantly affect such sites.

January 2015

The Habitats Regulation Assessment (pdf) was endorsed by Full Council on 27 January 2015.

June 2014

The Habitats Regulations Assessment Screening Report (pdf) was made available for consultation, alongside the Matters Arising Changes Schedule (June 2014).

June-July 2013

The Habitats Regulations Assessment Screening Report (pdf) was made available for consultation, alongside the Revised Deposit Local Development Plan during June – July 2013.

April 2012

The Habitats Regulation Assessment Screening Report (pdf) was made available for comment with the Deposit Plan in April 2012.

The initial Habitats Regulations Assessment Screening Report (pdf) was made available for comment from 22 January - 19 March 2010.

The Habitat Regulations Assessment Screening Report (HRA)

Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) of spatial development plans is a requirement of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) as set out in the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010.

This report details the HRA Screening for Newport City Council Deposit LDP Deposit Plan and sets out the methods, findings and the conclusions of the Screening Assessment.
