Step 3: Save the Date

Legal notice for a marriage or civil partnership cannot be given more than 12 months before your ceremony.

In order to help you plan further in advance, Newport Registration Service offers a Save the Date service to let you book your ceremony as far ahead as you wish, enabling you to make all the other necessary arrangements in good time.

Fridays and Saturdays are the most popular days for ceremonies and you are advised to make a booking well in advance to secure your preferred date and time.

Save the date bookings can be made by telephone or in person with a fee of £37 payable in respect of the specific venue, date and time.

Please note that we can only accept a Save the Date booking if both of you are free to marry or form a civil partnership.

The Save the Date fee is non-refundable if you cancel or choose not to proceed and if you wish to change any of your arrangements, a further 'save the date' fee will be payable. Please note - the £37 fee does not reduce the final balance.

If you choose not to Save the Date, that’s fine, we will advise you of current availability. However, there is no guarantee that your preferred date will be available when you complete your legal notice.

Bookings are confirmed only when legal notice has been given by both of you.

You will need to give your legal notice at the appropriate time to confirm the booking - we will advise further when you save the date.

Your legal notice must be given at the Register Office of the local authority where each of you live, regardless of where the ceremony is to take place.

Visit Gov.UK to find your local office for an appointment to do this.
