Certificates

For a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate where the event took place in the Newport district, apply to Newport Register Office.

Apply in person or by downloading the relevant application form:

Telephone orders

There is an administration charge of £5 per certificate for certificate payments made by telephone.  

Certificates will be posted by first class 'signed for' mail, however we cannot guarantee delivery times.

Same day service certificates can be ordered and paid for by credit or debit card over the telephone with a total cost of £22 per certificate. 

Details are taken and a contact number given when the entry has been traced.

Payment is taken once the entry is traced and confirmed. 

The certificate will be issued and sent to you by first class recorded delivery post.

Regular service applications which are issued five working days after receipt of the application can be ordered and issued after payment (taken after five working days) by credit or debit card, over the telephone, at a cost of £15 per certificate.

Same day service

For the same day counter service, your application must be received before 3.15pm.

This service costs £17 per certificate and is payable by cash or by credit or debit card.

Regular service

You can visit the Register Office during opening hours - no appointment is necessary - and complete an application form at the counter, returning after five working days to pay for and collect the certificate(s) at a cost of £10 each, payable by cash or by credit or debit card. 

The certificate will not be issued until payment is received, and you may be required to wait for the certificate to be written.

If you would like the certificate posted to you via first class ‘signed for’ mail, you can leave a cheque or postal order for £13 (we do not accept third party cheques) and the certificate will be sent out to you after five working days.

You may purchase an additional four certificates at £10 each in this way.

Postal applications

Download, print and complete the relevant application form (see links above) and send to us with a cheque or postal order for £13 for our regular service (issued after five working days) or £20 (same day issue).

The cheque or postal order must be made payable to 'Newport City Council', we do not accept third party cheques.

Please do not send a stamped addressed envelope (SAE).  

You may request up to four additional certificates at £10 each in this way.

Applications from abroad

For a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate where the event took place in the Newport district, please email details to registrar@newport.gov.uk and follow it with a phone call to our office (between 09:00 - 15:00) after five working days.

This service costs £20 and the certificate will be issued and sent to you via International 'signed for' post once payment has been taken.

OR

Send the relevant completed application form together with a cheque drawn on a UK bank clearing account (please note we cannot accept third party cheques) or a postal order for £20 made payable to Newport City Council.

The certificate will be issued and sent to you via International 'signed for' service once payment has been processed. 

You may purchase an additional four certificates at £10 each using either of these methods.
